Difference Between Journalism and Blogging
Blogging and journalism are two separate fields, which often leave students confused. Always remember that a blogger cannot do journalism. However, a journalist can also be a blogger. After a master in mass communication and journalism, many students get confused with selection to be a blogger or journalist.
To help you make a clear difference, here we have compared blogging and journalism:
- Blogging is more informal while journalism is a more formal style of writing.
- To write a blog, you may not need any collective evidence, evaluation of information, etc. But, to write an article in the field of journalism; you have to evaluate information, source of information, and authentication of the information.
- A blog can be written on any website or one can even create his own blog and doesn’t need any formal education like a master in mass communication and journalism. Journalists write news for authorized print or online media. The news and media houses that distribute this news usually must have a license for that.
- A blog can be written on any topic or niche. A blogger may not even follow a specific niche. Unlike that, the journalist needs to follow a niche and write news for that topic only.
- A blogger may twist the truth or project his or her personal point of view in the article. On the other hand, the journalist writes any news based on factual data and reliable sources. The journalists cannot add their own personal perspectives to the news and they have to write everything based on the truthfulness of the information.
- A blog may use formal or informal language and might not need to relate to the audience. However, journalists need to always use formal language as they learn during their studies in a master in mass communication and journalism. The journalists always stay fair and keep the story unbiased.
- A blogger may reveal a story with a conclusion based on the details a blogger may have. However, a journalist never distributes the story without any conclusion until and unless there are solid proofs for the judgment.
- A blogger can use a plagiarized story from different resources and sources. A blogger doesn’t need to double check the reliability of sources. A journalist cannot follow the same approach. Before writing any story, in the field of journalism, it is necessary to check the reliability of sources.
- A blogger may not need to go into the field to collect the story. A blogger can use the stories written by other journalists or bloggers. Unlike that, a journalist needs to run behind the stories by covering facts from the place where it is actually happening.
