GCAS stands for Gujarat Common Admission Services. It is an initiative by the Education Department, Government of Gujarat, designed to centralise the admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate courses across the state.
Through a single registration on the GCAS portal, students can apply for admission to 15 state government universities and their affiliated colleges. These include Government colleges, Grant-in-Aid colleges, Self-Financed colleges, and University Departments spread across Gujarat.
In simple terms, GCAS is the gateway to college admissions in Gujarat. If you miss the registration window, you miss your chance to apply.
Therefore, acting early and completing the process correctly is essential.
Students who have completed their SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) exams, or their equivalent, and wish to enrol in a recognised course at a Gujarat university or affiliated college are eligible to register. The portal supports both Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) admissions.
For example, if you want to pursue a B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., or a professional course like BAJMC (Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication), you will select the "Under Graduate" option. Similarly, students aiming for M.A., M.Com., M.Sc., or MAJMC (Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication) will select "Post Graduate."

Your SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) mark sheets are essential for entering academic details correctly. A scanned copy of your recent passport-size photograph and your signature are also required for uploading. Additionally, an active email address and a working mobile number are mandatory throughout the admission process.

Alternatively, if you are using NIMCJ's website at www.nimcj.org, you will find a direct GCAS Registration button on the homepage. Simply click on it and you will be redirected to the portal.
Once on the portal, click "Apply Now" and fill in your basic details. This includes your course type (Under Graduate or Post Graduate), your name exactly as it appears on your mark sheet, caste category, gender, date of birth, and your APAAR ID (also known as ABC ID).
Enter your active mobile number and email ID. You will receive two separate OTPs on both. After entering both OTPs and completing the captcha, click "Submit." Upon successful submission, GCAS will send your unique login ID (username) and password to your registered mobile and email. Save these carefully, as you will need them for every subsequent step.
Once you have your login ID, sign in to the portal and navigate to the Profile section. Here you will fill in all your personal details, including your full address, category details, and other mandatory information. After completing the profile, move to the Academic section and enter your Class 10 and Class 12 examination details accurately.
This stage also requires you to upload your documents. You will need to upload a recent passport-size photograph, your signature, and your 10th and 12th mark sheets. Ensure that all uploaded files are clear, legible, and within the specified file size limits. Poor-quality scans can cause issues during document verification later.
After completing all fields in both the Profile and Academic sections, click "Save and Next" to proceed.
This is one of the most important stages of the entire GCAS Registration process. Here, you select the university, college, and programme you wish to apply for.
First, select your preferred university from the available options. Then choose your programme. For example, if you are applying for BAJMC at NIMCJ, select "Bachelor of Arts - Journalism and Mass Communication" under the Under Graduate category.
Next, select "Ahmedabad" from the district dropdown and click "Search Choice" to see the list of eligible colleges. Choose your preferred college, such as NIMCJ, and set your choice priority. The priority order matters because it reflects your preference during the merit-based allotment process. Also, select your main subject as required by the programme.
You can add multiple college choices and rank them in order of preference. Therefore, think carefully before setting your priorities. Once the merit list is released, allotment will be based on your ranks and the choices you have submitted.
The final stage involves paying the registration fee and submitting your application. A registration fee of Rs. 300 is required, which can be paid online through the GCAS portal using net banking, UPI, or a debit or credit card.
After completing the payment, review all the details you have entered carefully. Check your name, category, academic information, document uploads, and college choices one final time. Once you are satisfied that everything is correct, click the "Final Submit" button.
After final submission, print a copy of your application for your records. This printed copy serves as confirmation that your GCAS Registration has been successfully completed. Keep it safe along with your login credentials for future reference.

Never enter a name that does not match your mark sheet exactly. Even an extra space or a missing initial can create issues during document verification.
